Live at the Barbershop is a recurring stand-up comedy show held inside a functioning barbershop at 174 East 2nd Street in New York City's East Village. The show has been running since 2016 and operates multiple nights per week, Thursday through Saturday.
The format is straightforward: about 40 seats arranged inside the barbershop, a rotating lineup of professional comedians, and no announced lineup. You find out who is performing when the show starts. Shows typically feature five to six comedians doing short sets over roughly 70 minutes with no intermission.
The venue is a real barbershop that cuts hair during the day. Barber chairs stay on the floor. There is no raised stage, and comedians perform just a few feet from the front row.
Lineups have included comedians with credits on Netflix, HBO, Comedy Central, SNL, late-night television, and major comedy podcasts. The show has also become a regular stop for touring comics working through new material in a small room.
Live at the Barbershop is produced by Greatest Show Ever, which also operates shows in Philadelphia, Houston, Austin, and Asheville.
